-----------------------
AERI-bago Daily Summary
-----------------------

Date: 18 July 2002 (Thursday)
Location: Everglades City, Florida
Operator: Bob Holz

Weather Conditions:
Scattered low cumulous in the morning developing into rain and
thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening..

Instrument Status:
Instrument functioned all day. The hatch was closed periodically during
the afternoon because of rain.
The hatch rain sensor has not been very sensitive to rain. Connor
noticed that it did not close during a quick rain event last night. He
thought that the low sensitivity could be due to the very moist
conditions. I suggested that it could be caused by the angle that the
rain sensor is mounted. If the rain is wind blown, the sensor would have
a different effective cross-section depending on the orientation of the
sensor. I think they are both possibilities. Connor and I tested the
rain sensor by placing a small water drop on the detector. The water
drop triggered the hatch.

Science:
Flights where canceled today.
