The CLAGEO (Coastal Louisiana Geomorphology) project
is an ongoing research effort focused on determining the causes of erosion
and deposition of sediment on Louisiana's coast. Sediment carried
by the Atchafalaya River is discharged into Atchafalaya Bay and the prevailing
alongshore current carries it westward where it ends up deposited on the
Chenier Plain region of the coast.
